On the Cusp of Womanhood
2016 - 2017
This work examines the juxtaposition between stepping into adulthood while remaining youthful and childlike. It attempts to capture the tension young women feel from their inability to sexualize their bodies without remaining childish, and the nostalgia they feel for their idealistic fantasy of a more perfect, virtuous world. While still maintaining an adolescent nature, young women are constantly aware of the gaze males often have on them. I am interested in exploring how the male gaze, although sometimes unnerving, affects a young woman's actions and gestures, especially in this transitional period.
